Joseph Michael Strittmatter, DVM
Founder + Co-Owner
Dr. Joseph Strittmatter is the co-owner of Town & Country Animal Hospital in Aubrey. He founded the practice in 1998.
A Texas native, Dr. Strittmatter grew up on a working farm in Pilot Point. “From a boy, I was always fascinated with being able to treat and care for animals,” he says. “I liked how a person could assist nature with healing.” While he regularly showed pigs, steers and heifers, Dr. Stritmatter says the most exciting moments on the farm were when his family called their local veterinarian. “I got to watch and ask annoying questions,” he says.
Dr. Strittmatter attended Texas A&M University for his undergraduate degree in genetics. He returned to Texas A&M to earn his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine, serving as president of Phi Zeta and graduating Magna Cum Laude. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Texas Veterinary Medical Association, and his professional interests include internal medicine and surgery.
Dr. Strittmatter has three children: Lauren, and twin boys, Collin and Reed, all currently attending Texas A&M University. Their farm is home to two horses, Cash and Smokey Joe; two dogs, Max and Bella; four cats, Mittens, Rose, CB and Edward; as well as chickens, pigs, and a herd of cattle. In his free time, Dr. Strittmatter enjoys farming, ranching, riding, playing guitar, and restoring antique tractors, engines and cars.
Julian Beau Black, DVM
Co-Owner
Dr. Julian Beau Black has been an associate veterinarian at Town & Country Animal Hospital since July 2015. Dr. Black became a practice partner in 2020.
Dr. Black grew up in the East Bay area of California. “As a kid, I was always taking things apart and trying to understand how it worked, which led to an initial interest in mechanical engineering,” says Dr. Black. “However, I also grew up with dogs, cats, and horses and enjoyed working with them. My sister, a veterinarian, showed me how I could combine both a love of animals and thinking about how things work with veterinary medicine. I followed that dream into veterinary studies and never looked back.”
Dr. Black attended California Polytechnic University San Luis Obispo for his undergraduate work, earning a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science and a minor in Biotechnologies. He earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Texas A&M University. Dr. Black is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Texas Veterinary Medical Association, and the Tarrant County Veterinary Medical Association. His professional interests include internal medicine, surgery, and orthopedic surgery.
Dr. Black has two English Labrador Retrievers, Bear and Finn, and a Miniature Longhair Dachshund, Teddy. In his free time, he enjoys windsurfing, surfing, mountain biking, rock climbing, backpacking, camping, kayaking, fishing, horseback riding, woodworking, playing guitar, and spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoys spending time with his wife Dr. Elizabeth Black, who is also a veterinarian and veterinary acupuncture specialist, and their two kids.
