Protect Your Furry Friends
Heartworm Prevention
A yearly heartworm test is recommended to ensure that your pet is free of heartworms. This is a simple blood test that is usually done at your yearly wellness exam. Monthly heartworm prevention is also recommended to prevent your dog from being infected with heartworms. Heartworms are transmitted by mosquitos and if left untreated can be fatal.
Deworming and Fecal Check
Dangerous parasites are always present in the environment. We recommend regular fecal checks and deworming as the best way to prevent parasitic disease and the transmission of intestinal parasites to your pet and your family members.
Flea & Tick Prevention
In Texas, fleas are a year-round problem for pets and their owners. They are not just a nuisance; they carry diseases that can be dangerous to both you and your pet. For example, fleas can transmit tapeworms to your pet, and often you can see segments of the tapeworm in your pet’s stool. Your pet can also be allergic to fleas, and even just one flea bite can cause an intense allergic reaction, resulting in a severely painful skin infection.
Ticks can also be problematic in our area, and can transmit a variety of serious illnesses, including Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever.
The good news is that these problems can be avoided by using one of the safe and effective parasite prevention products that are available at Town & Country Animal Hospital. Ask a member of our medical team to recommend a product that is right for your pet.
